So far 6 have been reported to the police and it seems that the majority of these have occurred during the day times. Entry to the properties was mainly through the small open windows in conservatories and at the sides of the houes. Rear patio doors were also attempted and damaged. Numerous electrical items and personal property was taken.
Can we remind you that, with the darker nights approaching fast and with Christmas and the festive period around the corner, its time to consider security.
If you have large amounts of packaging and wrapping to dispose of, consider breaking it down into smaller sizes and disposing of it over a period of time or at the recycle bins. It may also be a good idea to consider property marking with smartwater.
Basics like shutting windows and locking car doors even when you are only gone for a minute, or keeping your eye on your bag, can be all that it takes to prevent crime. Not securing your home, car and belongings just isn’t worth the cost and hassle.
Once again please remain conscious that there are those who look for opportunities and will take your belongings without a care.
One of the simplest and most effective moves you can make to protect your community is to join your local Neighbourhood Watch group. If there isn't one in your area already.
Finally a few tips from the Home Office:
install good outside lighting
leave radios or lights in your house on a timer store valuable items (including passports, driving licences and bank statements) out of view
hide cash and wallets away
secure bikes at home by locking them to an immoveable object inside a locked shed or garage
keep ladders and tools stored away; don't leave them outside where they could be used to break into your home
make sure the fences around your garden are in good condition
